OneGuyInAShop CNC Dust Boot
This is a review of the OneGuyInAShop CNC dust boot and the improvements made over the past several years. While my experience with CNCs is limited, I wanted to highlight a product whose performance has been extremely good. All of the products shown in this video were purchased with my own funds and nothing was provided free or discounted.

Miter Fold Jewelry Box
Переглядів 1,2 тис.7 місяців тому
I wanted to share my new method for cutting out the case components for a bow front jewelry box. My previous method was time consuming and offered significant opportunities for errors in the placement of the grooves for the drawer runners. This method offers considerable accuracy improvements and time savings permitting a lower price point on my jewelry boxes. I have done several videos on how ...
Costly Disaster Averted

This video shows what I dug out of a piece of 4" thick walnut gifted to me some time ago. It had been stored in a barn loft for a number of years before I received it. I am leery of starting to mill / resaw this piece due to fear of what might still lie beneath. Any suggestions for a deep scan metal detector is appreciated.

StretchAir Air Hose - Caveat Emptor
Переглядів 92210 місяців тому
This video provides an update on the Stretch Air hose that I used to love but no more. Despite being overpriced relative to other options, the durability of this hose leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the manufacturer calls their air hoses "consumables" and a total failure of the hose is evidently to be expected.
4 Minute Oval Drawer Pull

Safely Cutting Short Stock on the Miter Saw

This video highlights a miter saw fixture that I use for cutting very short stock on the miter saw. This design is specific to the Festool Kapex KS 120 saw however, if you have another make with the trenching function, this design can probably be altered to fit. While this is probably best cut using a CNC or the Shaper Origin, drawings are provided such that this fixture can be made using more ...

    This is what I’ve been looking for. I made a small box to hold the engagement ring for my girlfriend and I’ve just been trying to figure out a way to hold it in place. I saw I could roll up the fabric, but that felt a little weird I guess. And I like how little materials you actually need.

    Interesting video. I would have just gang planned all my stock to get it all the same width and then run them through the shaper with my round over cutterhead. I need to build an outboard fence I can see that is very useful. Also thinking a cutterhead that will round both edges at once would be nice. Two passes instead of 4. How is it getting both of the round over knives that can move up and down at the same height? Thanks for all the ideas. What are the connections on the end of the sliding table? They look like air hose quick connectors?

    • @extremewoodworker
      @extremewoodworker 11 днів тому

      Getting the upper roundover knives at the same height and at the same material thickness is a difficult proposition. I have done it before on this cutterhead and got mixed results. That is why I only used the lower roundover knives which are fixed. The connections on the sliding table are air connections for Airtight Clamps. Steve

      Hi Alan. I used a 1" thick insulating board from a local lumberyard. It is styrofoam with silver mylar on one side and a thin clear plastic sheet on the other. I probably should have faced the mylar toward the outside for heat reflection though. It works well and my neighbors cannot hear the machinery running. You can hear machinery running standing outside if you are near the shop. Steve

    Good afternoon, I have the exact same setup as you and currently using the kent cnc and run into the same problem when I use the amana rc2259. Does it really work that well with that large bit. It's almost 4in and wondering if I will end up cutting the bristles off the same as on my kent cnc dust boot. Also on a separate note it's tough finding others who use that same rc2259 bit. Was wondering what speeds and feed you found to work best with that bit? I mainly flatten hard wood slabs and still looking to optimize the feed and speeds, rpms, doc etc. Thank you in advance for the help, I appreciate your time!

    • @extremewoodworker
      @extremewoodworker 4 місяці тому

      It does not cut bristles if they are just above the surface of your workpiece. If you compress the bristles, they will be cut. I use a 0.125" pass depth with a 60% stepover at 12000 rpm and a 250ipm feed with 125ipm plunge. I usually start about 1/2 those feed rates to start and then bump it up depending on results. Since this is not a plunging bit, I always lead in from the side so the plunge rate does not come into play. Hope this helps. Steve

    Hi Steve. I have had a Lumber Wizard metal detector for about 20 years and it has never let me down. On thicker boards such as the one you showed I scan it from both sides. I just looked online and the newest version is called the Lumber Wizard 5. It has about a 6 inch scanning area and the new version has a laser to help pinpoint the area where the metal is found. Woodcraft, Rockler and Amazon carry’s it as well as other places. As I said I have been satisfied with mine.

    Hi Steve, great video as always! I am looking to order a felder profil 45 z. do you find that having a power sliding fence worth while or is it just a nice to have? I am also considering a F 700 which has power rise and fall but no auto fence option. Thank you.

    • @extremewoodworker
      @extremewoodworker 6 місяців тому

      Hi James. I had upgraded to the Profile 45Z from a shaper that had manual handwheel adjustments for the fence and spindle. The real advantage of the computerized system is a significant reduction in setup time and having the ability to go back to the same setup. I note the settings on my project drawings and just enter them when I run the same project again. I could save the settings but have found it takes me less time to enter values from the drawing than to search for settings in a program database. I have never had the power drive version of the Felder so cannot answer to its usefulness. Both work but, the potential time savings is a big plus. Steve
